nikon zoom lenses review

slr photography questions about lenses?
I want to buy a new camera(had compact camera and a c8080 olympus and i want something more..)and i thought of buying Nikon D60..i would probably go for the D40 but I need the 10 megs (and i think it’s better than D40x and cheaper than D80)because I am a graphic designer and I want to use them for large prints and lots of zoom/cropping will take place..
I dont want to spend lots of money..and I need to know mostly about lenses..the package that I have in mind is:NIKON D60 + lens AF-S DX VR NIKKOR 18-55 mm and the other one has one more lens on the package:AF-S VR DX 55-200 mm..
does it worth having the package with the two lenses??..
read at a review that the 55-200 mm is good for portrait photography too..what is the point for the small one?.
can someone give me some good mm lenses for the D60?..(general use,far and close up themes)
does that VR really works well?…(would walk on bad neighborhoods for some shots at night time..don’t want to carry around tripods..
thank you!

–Yes, it’s worth it to have the two lenses, so you can cover from a wide angle point of view to telephoto (bringing far objects closer).

–The 18-55mm lens is better for wide angle shots, to cover a greater area–like landscapes, cityscapes, people in rooms, group shots, etc. Plus, it can be used for full-length portraits, and you don’t have to back up as far.

–Sigma just released a 50mm f/1.4 lens which sould be good for night shooting without a flash which will autofocus with your D60. Nikon makes a 24-120 VR AF-S lens which has a useful zoom range (slightly wide to telephoto). The pricing for the second lens is quite affordable (just make sure to get the AF-S version, not the older non-AF-S version), especially used.
But the two lenses, the 18-55mm VR and 55-200mm VR are good starter lenses and are very affordable.
does that VR really works well?
–Yes, it really works and works well.
