D200 Camera settings Question?
Hello photographers…I was hoping for some help. I normally take photos in a studio with umbrella lighting etc and I take the photos with a Nikon D200. However, another photographer set the camera up for use with the studio, changing things like the ISO.
I am going on my first location shoot later and was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to change on the camera and how to do this? It will be an outdoor shoot. I have a ring flash.
This way I can learn to switch between outdoor and studio without confined to the indoors because I’m afraid to mess up the settings on the camera!
Thanks so much in advance.
The ring flash would be no better than the D200’s pop-up, so leave that behind for field work until you know WHY you might want to use a ring flash instead. Ultimately, you want to get an SB600 or SB800, though.
Outdoors, you can easily use ISO 100 or 200. Set the camera in “M” and use the “matrix” reading to read the overall scene until you get the result you want. Check the LCD for results, using the histogram, if you know how.
Once you get the background and overall scene to your liking, pop up the flash and shoot. It will fill in what you need on your subject. If it’s too hot, hold in the +/- button on the side of the flash housing and dial it down (negative ev’s) until it comes out right.
This is the “quick and dirty” approach for your first efforts. You will add equipment to solve problems as you go.
